Annual General Meeting Minutes
The Annual Club General Meeting (AGM) was held on Tuesday
night, September 9 with a special addendum meeting on October 14, 2008

KW Chess Club Annual General Meeting
September 9, 2008, and October 14, 2008
1. Approval of the Minutes of AGM 2007 The minutes were approved as
published on the web-site September 2007. Fifteen members were present.
2. Reports: (a) President's Report: Doug Hoch explained the types of
tournaments run during the year. See the kwchessclub.com website. The
agreement with the City for rental of facilities and Outdoor Chess program
was briefly stated. The cooperation of Kitchener City is appreciated. Doug
Hoch and Patrick McDonald have been elected as CFC governors. We also have
support of the Kitchener Downtown Business Association for some of our
programs..
(b) Vice President's Report: no report.
(c) Treasurer's Report: Hans Jung presented a Membership and Financial
Report Membership total is 93 current members. The Youth Club and Family
memberships have contributed to this increase. Youth club meets Sundays at 1
pm. Now is the time to renew your membership. A detailed Financial Report
was distributed and discussed. This financial report was prepared with the
help of Gerry Litchfield. The Club has $4000 in investments.
MOTION: Be It Resolved that we direct the Executive to investigate the
registration of KW Chess Club as a non-profit organization. CARRIED
Hans Jung also commended the excellent club web-site maintained by
Patrick McDonald.
(d) Youth Club: Patrick McDonald reported on the successful Sunday youth
program. We also sponsor the Waterloo Region Chess Challenge for Chess'n
Math with 211 participants. The Ontario Youth Chess Championship also had
about 150 players. A gift package with free passes and key chains was
presented to participants. We also sponsored the Waterloo County High School
Chess league Individual tournament.
(e) Chess Festival and Canadian Amateur Tournament Patrick McDonald
reported on the Summer Chess Festival held in mid summer. Plans for the
North American Youth Chess Tournament are on-going with funding
opportunities being looked at.
MOTION: Be It Resolved that the all the reports be accepted as presented.

3. Elections: President ( 1 year) Vice President (1 year) Treasurer (2
years) and Secretary (2 year)
Nomination: President - Dan Raats Vice President - Patrick McDonald
Treasurer - Hans Jung Secretary - Ed Thompson
4. New President's Vision Statement: We will continue the good work with
regular Tuesday night tournaments, several weekend Open tournaments, and an
active youth program.
5. Any Other Business: (a) New year for memberships. The KWCC membership
year goes from September to September. Membership in the club is required
for participation in club sponsored tournaments and activities. (b)
Oktoberfest and Ontario Open will be held the weekend after Thanksgiving.
This tournament has a long tradition in this area. (c) Appointing directors
by the new Executives. At the next meeting of the Executive, Directors for
the club will be appointed.
6. Special General Meeting: A Special General Meeting was held in October
to revise the Executive positions. The revisions are shown above. Motion: Be
It Resolved that the revised Executive nominations be approved.

7. Adjournment : The meeting was adjourned after 9 pm.
